The publishers of textbooks for high school students have recently announced that they will remove references to evolution from their textbooks. A group called the Society for Textbook Revise (STR) is an independent organization that is an offshoot of the Korea Association for Creation Research, has led the drive. The STR has scored its first victory by removing from textbooks examples of the evolution and ancestor of an avian, called the Archeopteryx. The next step is to remove excerpts from Darwin’s infamous finch-research as well as on human evolution.

STR claims to have the backing of 4,000 families and individual members. Its mission is to cut out what it regards as the "atheist materialism" that creates a bleak worldview for students. It also aims at countering the influence of American Creationists across the country. A survey of trainee biology teachers revealed that around half do not believe in evolution.
